JPA Scholarships

Offered by the Malaysia Public Service Department to Malaysian Nationalities, JPA (Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam) Scholarships are one of the most sought-after scholarships in Malaysia. These scholarships are known to be highly competitive and difficult to obtain. While the closing dates for JPA Scholarships in 2020 are over, here’s a few basic information about JPA Scholarships you should be aware of.

Only students who sat for their Malaysian Education Certificate (SPM) are eligible to apply. There is a selected list of courses and institutions you can pursue your education in, based on requirements set by JPA. Some of the scholarships offered will require you to have received an offer to study from the university. Shortlisted applicants are required to be assessed at the Student Assessment Center (SAC).

These scholarships are not only limited to studies in Malaysia, but can also apply to studies abroad in countries like Japan, Korea, France, Germany, New Zealand and China. Students with excellent academic results can also apply for sponsorship to pursue their degrees in top 10 UK and US universities (based on Academic Ranking).

In 2020, JPA Scholarships exist as convertible loans, whereby students will be able to convert it into a full or partial scholarship depending on which route you choose. JPA aims to have talented graduates contribute to the nation through civil service, and will reward them accordingly. In these cases, recipients can convert it into a full scholarship if they serve as a public servant upon graduation. Other forms of loan repayment are also applicable.

JPA is also offering sponsorships to help students who are from a B40 family background that are currently pursuing their diploma in technical and vocational education and training (TVET). The goal of this sponsorship program is to further their studies in marketable skills, thus improving their opportunities and livelihood.

Scholarships from JPA often have a tight deadline for applicants to submit their form, and are often announced in the beginning of the year, after students have received their SPM results.
